Don’t Trust Your Wounds

A Poem

Don’t trust your wounds

They gape even when stitched

Eclipsing more mass than exists

They speak less than half-truths

But consume the whole story

Are you brave for choking your life

Down to a single frozen frame

Or for naming and burning the pain

Renaming the old smoke

Curled leaves fall

From a healthy branch

The branch does not

Chase the leaf to the ground
